Communication Professionals

We have administered the national registers for BSL/English interpreters and other communication professionals since 1992. Communication professionals are individuals with recognised qualifications in various language and communication skills, and other areas as appropriate. They provide specific types of communication support in all sorts of work, leisure, learning, and consumer environments. Registration is a way of enabling communication professionals to demonstrate their commitment to the highest professional standards.

Registering is currently a voluntary procedure. The only exception is for those communication professionals who work in courts, or with the police - professionals must register in order to practice in these environments.
