Government Funding for BSL Courses in Colleges 2010-2011

A recent survey by the Association of Colleges shows that across England FE establishments are expecting an average cut in their Adult Learner Responsive budgets of 16%, with some colleges expecting a cut of as much as 25%. Colleges are currently negotiating with the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) to secure funding for the courses they plan to offer in the academic year 2010-2011. As the cuts bite, some of the colleges say that, without guaranteed priority funding they will, reluctantly, be unable to provide their BSL courses.

Qualification Extended on the NQF

We can confirm that another qualification which was reaching the end of it's NQF accreditation have been extended until 31 December 2010. This is: Level 3 Certificate for Language Service Professionals Working with Deaf and Deafblind People (LLS3, LNT3, LST3, & LDB3).

Sign Poetry Festival

The University of Bristol Centre for Deaf Studies are set to hold the second Sign Poetry Festival on Saturday 20 February and Sunday 21 February. The festival has workshops and performances from some of England and Europe's top Deaf poets.

Alra Holding Summer BSL Acting Courses

Alra - The Academy of Live and Recorded Arts - is holding two acting courses during the summer for BSL users. Both courses are free to take part in thanks to funding from the LSC.
