Mike Penning appointed Minister for Disabled People in government reshuffle

The winds of change have swept through government in the past week resulting in a number of ministerial changes.

Mike Penning the former Minister for Northern Ireland has been appointed the new Minister for Disabled People in the reshuffle. Previous incumbent Esther McVey is promoted to Minister for Employment, her new responsibilities will include Job Centre Plus and the Work Programme.

Mike has a personal interest in deaf issues; having hearing loss in one ear from his days in the armed forces and previously having had a girlfriend who was hearing impaired.

We wish him well in his new role and hope he will put his personal experience to good use in keeping deaf issues firmly on the government’s agenda.
